Weekly Walking Soccer Sessions

Currently our sessions are held once a week in the Whit Bear Lake YMCA gym.

YMCA membership is required (or try it out for free as a guest of a member)

 Coaching

No previous soccer experience required.  Our sessions are run by licensed coaches that can help you get fit to play., teach you the skills, and the rules. If you played soccer before you are more than welcome.

What is Walking Soccer?

Walking Soccer is a modified version of the traditional game where players walk instead of run. No heading is allowed as well as no contact.

It is perfect for seniors looking to stay active and enjoy playing a sport. It is beneficial for all seniors, especially for those with arthritis, Parkinsons , and similar conditions where exercise  is encouraged.

It is popular in England and throughout Europe. In the USA it is an established sport in California, Washington State, and Hawaii.

 

 

 

What if I never played soccer before?

No previous experience is required. Those that played before and those that have not are both welcome. If you are new to soccer our coaches will show you how to play and teach you the rules of the game.    

Do I need to bring anything or need any special equipment?

Shorts are and a tee shirt are preferred. Its best to bring one(1) dark and one(1) light shirt.

Tennis shoes or indoor soccer shoes are preferred. Hard shoes are not allowed in the gym. When playing outdoor no baseball cleats are allowed.

Bring water to stay hydrated.

A lawn chair is suggested for outdoor sessions.

Bring a soccer ball if you have one.. 

FYI: The official ball used for Walking Soccer is called a Futsal ball (size 4) but any soccer ball is ok to start with.

 

Will I be able to join a team?

We are just starting out. Teams will be based on the number of participants. Our future goal is to form teams and start a Walking Soccer League.

How often and where are the practices/games held?

Practice/Games are currently held weekly at the YMCA in White Bear Lake, MN.  See Weekly Walking Soccer Sessions above for current time, day of the week, and location.

 

 

Is a YMCA membership required to play?

A YMCA membership is required (or try it out for free as a guest of a member)
